Private Practice Salary Report 2020-2021

Geoff Denton Salary Guide, Market Insight, Market Update...

We are delighted to present Taylor Root’s 2020-21 Private Practice Salary Guide & Market Report. A lot has changed since we presented our last report, with the challenge of COVID-19 impacting us all.

For over 20 years, Taylor Root Australia has produced an annual salary guide in July, and despite COVID-19 we wanted to continue the tradition. We appreacite that many law firms have and will be required to put in place measures to steer their businesses through the global pandeamic and our report has taken this information into consideration. Our market information is relied upon by Law firms and HR teams to provide accurate benchmarking.

By means of introducing this report, below is an extract from the market overview.

The year started strongly, with ambitious projections of work across multiple practice areas including corporate, litigation, finance and construction. Top-tier, mid-tier and boutique firms actively sought to bolster their teams in anticipation of the impending workload. Salaries increased due to demand, strong candidates received multiple offers and firms consistently offered the top end of their range (or just beyond it in some instances). The advent of COVID-19 and subsequent lockdown measures in March 2020 brought the economy and recruitment to an abrupt halt.

Areas covered in this years report include:

• Overview of the Australian Legal Market
• Legal Industry Insights Q&A
• Australian Lawyers’ salaries at Top-Tier, Mid-Tier and Boutique firms
• Partners’ remuneration
• International Market Insights & Salaries
