Reporting into the General Counsel, the in-house legal counsel will be responsible for the following;
- Reviewing and advising on commercial agreements (particularly in relation to technology and service operations);
- Advising managers on and drafting contracts for business development, including database activities, international and end user licensing;
- Advising publishers and all departments (including Licensing, Client Services, Publisher Services, Accounts, Business Development, International) on the scope of Company mandates, licences and other agreements;
- Assisting with / dealing with correspondence with publishers and clients, as required;
- Advising on copyright issues, as required.
- Assisting as a point of escalation for issues with non-compliant organisations (MMOs and licensees) and pursuing legal action where appropriate;
- Assisting the finance team and credit control function, advising on the suitability for escalation to issuing a claim, and ensuring pre-action protocol is observed;
- Managing the Company's compliance with the requirements of 'The Collective Management of Copyright (EU Directive) Regulations 2016 (including Company Membership Rules, Annual Transparency Report) and with Data Protection laws (including the General Data Protection Regulation);
- Managing other aspects of general corporate compliance;
- Keeping abreast of and keeping the company appraised of any changes to applicable laws and relevant court judgements (particularly in relation to copyright and competition law), ensuring that the Company licences policies and procedures are compliant and up-to-date;
- Reviewing and preparing responses to relevant government consultations, as required.

- Content and rights licensing experience is a plus.

- Have sound interpersonal skills, to be able to deal with staff at all levels inside and outside the organisation, external publishers and clients;
- Demonstrate an ability to articulate and communicate clearly and with authority;
- Have a good attention to detail and strong analytical skills;
- Be able to work independently.
