Senior Legal Counsel (Commercial)

London or Remote

A truly innovative tech-start up is hiring a Senior Legal Counsel to influence the business and facilitate expansion across the globe. Their unique approach has quickly established them as one of the most exciting tech companies in Africa. The company has expanded exponentially in the past 12 months, expanding into several African regions, as well as across the globe. This technology is having a positive effect on mobility and transforming the lives of thousands who can earn a new source of income. This is an exciting start-up with products and services that offer huge potential.

Reporting to the General Counsel, you will have a varied role with the opportunity to be involved in a broad range of commercial, data privacy and IP matters, as well as regulatory and licensing issues relevant to the business's local markets.

The work would include:

  • Drafting and negotiating a wide variety of commercial contracts
  • Providing legal and regulatory advice to departments across the organisation
  • Advising on the impact of specific legal issues that could impact the company
  • Line management responsibility for Junior Legal Counsel as the legal team grows

You must be a UK qualified lawyer who is ideally 5-8 PQE. To be considered for this position you must be a strong commercial lawyer who ideally has in-house experience at a start-up. This role will cover many areas so the person must have a broad skill set and be able to handle business operations. Experience in a Fintech or Tech start-up/scale up would be advantageous.

This is a wonderful opportunity for an ambitious individual who wants to influence a tech start-up during its rapid growth stage. As this is a newly created role, you will be able to define the remit.
